It depends on what you watch obviously!!
If you watch lots of great documentaries like on Nation Geographic or Animal Planet, then of course its intelligent. But if you watch American sit-coms or those 2 stupid spoiled whores in 'The simple life' (god i hate that show!) then it will stupid.

The actual television itself is not intelligent at all as, from a electronics point of view, it is a relatively simple task to decode and display the pictures being sent over the airwaves and it does not make decisions for itself.
The intelligence lies with the person who is watching the television as they need to 'intelligently' decide what to watch, whether the information they are being presented with is truthful and when is a good time to switch it off or change channel.

It depends on the material and program you are watching. If you're watching useless cartoons, although some are pretty funny, so we watch them, but I mean channels like the Discovery Channel are educational and can teach you things. Even from watching shows of interest, educational or non- educational, I learned new words and meanings of words I didn't know before. I say it's an educational thing, it all depends on the material that is viewed. It can also make a problem as it is one factor in obesity- some kids and some people laze around the TV all day long, snacking and watching TV while they can be doing something else, like exercise or some sort of activity. I'll be honest with you, I'm a little overweight as well, but I usually do a slow jog from one place to another, let it be just next door or down the street. I laze around my room all day, especially on my computer, and I play online or just simply play my PS2. I know, I know, I have to practice what I preach, but it's harder than that. Perhaps I'll try harder.

Its as intelligent as the viewer. Intelligent people can be further educated by it (including the propaganda.. in itself it educates as to others views) while sliding down the iq scale people will just believe everything they see and read or will not care and just use the tv as a"goggle box"....

television is actually closer to reality than anything in books.the madness of tv is the madness of human life n tv has succeeded in lifting the manufacture of banality out of the sphere of the handicraft n placed it in that of a major industry n it contracts the imagination n expands it n we can also call it a stupidvision- where most of the presenters look like they have to pretend to b stupid b,coz they think their audience is...it petronises.it talks to the vaccum cleaner n the washing machine without much contact with the human brain.

Depends on the person. Those who think television is reality, or live their lives vicariously through television really give it a bad name.
