I heard that it was suppose to go up to 7.00 sometime soon.. is that even close to right?

I don't appreciate the "minimum wage career" comment. I'm in college, and I work for a little over minimum wage for extra spending money--since you know, I'm in college. I guess people who have always had cushy jobs wouldn't know what it's like to deal with rude customers in min. wage jobs.

Many states have already raised it.

The new Congress has as one of the first items on their agenda to raise the federal minimum to $7.25.

Yes, this will be a federal law by within the next year passed by congress. The wage will be increased to $7.25.

on a side note,,,,
this is a nominal increase in wage. I suppose the "real" wage will not increase that muchbecause this will cause increase in prices of goods and services and we will have to spend more to buy something. ( who do you think will end up paying for higher production cost? )

and as soon as it goes up, economic downturn will soon follow.

That strikingly low minimum wage is the only thing keeping any jobs here at all...
