Wow, these answers are great, and the world even more absurd than I thought!
Keep 'em coming!

We could get these absurdities to cancel each other out! We could send Jordan and Peter, the Blairs and the monarchy into outerspace with the contestants from American Idol with nothing more to eat than tins of SPAM, perform plastic surgery on Bush so he looks like Hilary Clinton, (then put him on the next one-way NASA flight too), re-distribute the money spent by the US military to eliminate poverty so that people don’t have to worship golden-robed demagogues, use political correctness to ban the word ‘religion’, and save the planet !!! Who’s with me?!

I was in St Peter's square in Rome recently. There were hundreds of people there from Guatemala, of all places.

Benedict 16th spoke to them all and they were all cheering.

It suddenly dawned on me that the poor people of Guatemala have been putting money into collection boxes for hundreds of years . And now, standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM, was a German guy dressed in golden robes, whom they actually believed was God's emissary here on earth. And their money had gone to pay for works of art by Michelangelo and Bernini, whilst the people of Guatemala were worn down by years of agricultural toil.

What an obscenity. Religious belief is, to me, the ultimate absurdity.

.The greatest absurdity has got to be superficiality. It's really absurd how external elements like money, looks, and status have become far more important than intrinsic values. People nowadays are not willing to exert any effort in pursuit of anything deep. What happened to personal relations and human values?Have material things become of uttermost importance, that one's inside doesn't matter anymore?I don't know about you, but to me, the state of things in the world today, is beyond tragic.

Poverty and child cruelty, in this day and age I find it totally amazing that either of those exist, all the power and money in the world is doing nothing at all to help either of those causes, totally absurd.

Plastic surgery. I imagine if I visited another planet and saw aliens getting plastic surgery, I would run away in horror. Then to find out they WANT, and are risking their life so they can look better?

that people find making money far more important than saving the planet from climate change. All that money wont mean nothing when our environment has become too hostile to sustain human life.
