I can see the case for decriminalization of cannabis, but not hard drugs. Even in the Netherlands smack and meth are still illegal. I think Singapore and Malaysia perhaps have the right idea. Hang a few drug dealers and others will find a new occupation.

The war on drugs costs over $60 billion dollars a year
Doing what? employing people to stop drug dealers?? well worth it in my world.
It causes 13.3 times the estimated amount of deaths that would have occured if it were legal through minor regulations
Interesting numbers, deaths from what and who? Dead drug dealers are a plus.
It hurts our economy and environment by not allowing the growth of industrial hemp
get real....
It has caused our prison system to contain more than 2.5 percent of Americans
Who broke the law!!!!
It has infringed on rights protected by the bill of rights
Interesting - what rights are those?? to break the law?
it has caused the rate of addiction to double in comparison to the netherlands
Nice number but no proof - as the econmics are different
it has limited the quality of service of medical care
?????
the main beneficiaries of the war on drugs are Marijuana dealers because profits have risen because Marijuana prices have increased %300 percent since 1980.
Street dealers also benfit.
Heroine in the same span of time has become over 600 times cheaper.
I do not agree - but hey I will give you this one, cause real stupid poeple are using meth.

Just answered your question but here goes again. The war on illegal drugs is a horrific mess, simply because our justice system was hijacked by liberal activist judges. If you want to win the war on illegal drugs, just get the population to stop being stupid and do something else with their time besides doing drugs.

Hello,
Here, have you ever seen this video from Dateline NBC from 1996 about the CIA and cocaine in So Cent L.A.? This is all from an article from Gary Webb of the San Jose Mercury News.
Hope this is not evading your question.
Hope this helps you.............. : -O

It's actually fairly easy to make the case. It is interesting to compare the current situation with Prohibition.

Absolute proof that those figures you quoted would be lower if we did nothing. How can you say that it is not working if you have no baseline to compare it to? Imagine how much worse things would be if there were no war on drugs.
