Well, some people can be dyslexic. It is a kind of disorder in which a person can't read or write that well, thus they can't spell words right online. But, using "no" for "know" is just Internet slang, a type of laziness in spelling. Many people know what the person is saying, so they don't care how words are spelled. I once got an answer in which a person used "yano" for "you know" and it took me a while to figure it out. I think if a person wants to type, they should at least be a bit more active in doing so. Spell correctly, right? There is a link in which a person can correct mistakes, right? Like me, my spelling and grammar is like I'm talking in person. If I want to post a question or answer, I make sure that the grammar and spelling is correct.

A little from both of the catagories....
Most people spell in 'txt talk' which personally I hate with a passion as it seems to remove the need to actually spell correctly.
Its not just spelling, the whole concept of penmanship is dying with the more common use of keyboards. Even when I was at school over 10 years ago the teachers were starting to encourage us to use a typed base of writing so they could read it easier I suppose... but certainly handwriting standards have slipped considerably.
Of course, with the above also comes the SPELL CHECKER which frankly eliminates the need for such things as NEEDING to know how to spell, I'm just pleased that hopefully every now and then, a word comes along that the spell checker cannot recognise.

Certainly on the internet, I would hazard a guess that it's not poor spelling at fault but something else. My room is freezing and so are my hands, which is causing me to miss out letters all over the place. Do you bother to correct these errors? Not always...
A lot of children - and I can only talk about the ones I teach - have reasonable literacy skills but they have become lazy, assuming that spellcheck will sort everything out for them. There is always the argument that text-speak has started to dominate writing, because the necessity is to communicate quickly/cheaply . Of course, you could blame all sorts of things. Think about the context where you see these errors, as this may be a factor.
An alternative view may be to embrace these 'horrifying' errors and see them as signs of the fluidity of language, which is a good thing, isn't it?

Alas, nobody can be bothered to "Proof-read" visually any more. So I would say that ignorance (as in a lack of basic schooling) coupled with spelling corruption (due to the internet) is the reason why spelling, grammar and punctuation is so appalling nowadays. One that I do find very annoying is when a lower-case "i" is used instead of an upper-case "I" resulting in i'm, i've, etc, when it should be I'm or I've.
If anyone can find a fault in my answer, I'll eat my online dictionary - promise! lol

Teachers are instructed(ordered) not to correct all of the pupils' spelling/grammar mistakes, lest it upset them,,,AH DIDDUMS.
Thus they do n't realise what mistakes they have made and are n't able to learn from them.Teachers are told not to make them write out the corrections 10 times,in case the kids get distressed DIDDUMS again. It's not kids'fault it is the PC (loadsamoney)
bureaucrats that have made a generation of near illiterate people.
Too harsh? Look at some of the correspondence on here for a start..full of textspeak...innit.

Probably a combination of many factors, including the two you mention and a deficit in education. The perpetrator cannot always be made to take the blame if they know no difference.
I have discovered that many of the young have developed a language of their own, which I think is known as text speak? One either learns it or ignores it, does not one?

I was asking myself the same question...then I answered it. It is a craze originated from texts which makes the typing process quicker. Things like lol which shorten words while remaining understandable. It seems to be cool not to know how to spell. If they were really worried they could always use yahoo's free spellcheck.

Seriously, I think we have a lot of morons on here who just can't spell. We also have to take into account that we have a lot of people whose first language is not english.
But generally I think it is pure laziness and in a lot of cases the darned mobile/cell phone is to blame with the new texting language that has developed from it.

wuz wrong wit4 my sp33l1ng ... lulz
Alot of people do just to try and be cute ... which it is definitely not. More that likely though, it is because people are trying to type as fast as they are thinking and don't bother to take the time and correct their errors. Illiterates and non-English speaking/writing people tend to have a difficult time with spelling as well.
so ... because they don't care, are being lazy, or just don't know better.

It is just that some people are too lazy or they may have wanted to take revenge for not selecting theirs as the best answer or their mind is very fast but their hands are not. It is one reason that makes them think that they are the fastest typers.
