My syrian hamster used to sneeze a lot when I put in a different toilet paper bedding. It also seemed like she was getting diarrhea because her tail area was wet (can allergies do that?) Well after I changed the toilet paper back to the usual one, she started to seem better. So can they be allergic to certain types, and can allergies cause diarrhea?

Do not use toilet paper to line your hamster cage. Toilet paper has lotion and the hamster will eat it and the soft fiber plus the lotion (perfumed) will cause diarhea
They thrive better with shredded newspapers. Hamsters will attempt to move his bedding around by stuffing these papers into his mouth (pouch) and putting them where he wants it.
Toilet paper is not good for him/her.
Ask the pet store, or simply watch what they do for their hamsters. Invariably it will be newspaper sheets in the bottom, shredded newspapers plus soft wood shavings.

do not use toilet paper in their cage as bedding, use aspen or go to petsmart and get a good low dust bedding, no cedar or pine, wet tail is from too many greens, dirty cage, or too much wet food.

its possible, diarrhea kills hamsters fast, if the toilet paper had aloe in it or something that could make the little critter sick.
