First let me say I was against invading Iraq when it was first proposed.
I always thought we should have brought Osama and all of his generals to justice first. I don't understand why he's still at large 5 years later?
Before the first troops were deployed to Iraq didn't we have a strategy? Didn't the planners really know that Sunni and Shiite sympathizers would send insurgents to the area? Why didn't we secure the borders immediately?
Because of the failure to do that we are still there and every day more insurgents come in.
I understand the outrage by American citizens!
Does the public realize that if we leave now ... we leave Iraq wounded and bleeding. We enabled this civil war. In order to bring our troops home we are going to have to stabilize the region or just hand the country over to whichever Middle Eastern country wants it the most. Is that really the right thing to do? Is that honoring the men and women who lost their lives there? Did they die in vain?
IMHO

the decision to invade Iraq was made in a hurry, just hours after 9/11. Apparently the joint chiefs of staff objected to rushing in without a clear strategy for stabilizing the country after the fall of the Baath regime and having an exit strategy, but they were overruled. The official reason to invade Iraq were those weapons of mass destruction. Remember the presentation of the "evidence" Colin Powell was ordered to give for the assembly of the UN. Weeks later a rumor circulated in the American media that there was a connection between the Iraqi government and Al Qaida. It became another " reason" to invade the country. Until today there's still no evidence for the existence of WMD or the Al Qaida connection. Meanwhile the Allied forces can neither move forward or backward. Anyone with a basic understanding of the history of Iraq and the Middle East could have predicted the civil war and the insurgency. American military officers are highly educated people with an understanding and knowledge of social and military history. Yet no exit strategy was devised. It has become a Gordian knot with a global impact and no simple hack of a sword will help.

Should we have, will we, when, why, and many other questions to ask. What I thought should have or not have been does not make any difference now so about all that can be done is keep trying and hopefully some of the rest of the world will wake up and help solve rather than hender as they have done so far.

What was yesterday has already been done so it can not be changed. Tomorrow can be better with some effort on the part of many governments.

Too complicated for me to say what should have been or should be done. I just hope it will end soon.

"in case you bring up a issue, have a answer." answer: the answer grew to become into to no longer BE THERE interior the 1st place. no longer many human beings needed this stupid "conflict" over in dirt land. a number of my acquaintances could nonetheless be right here and many issues ought to be funded with this money we are dropping. 2. right it somewhat is the go out strat... Get out... go away all jointly and admit to the international that we've been incorrect to bypass at it on my own. There was no exit strategy, he was too busy trying to look cool in front of his buddies and the Clinton haters. The civil war in Iraq is inevitable and it won't be the first civil war America has caused by meddling.

There never was an exit strategy...another one of Bush's half-baked ideas....way to go President, way to lead us to victory. We are losing the war. Not on the battle field are we losing, but if you've lost the support of your country, the war is lost.

No, we can't leave Iraq now. Too bad the government didn't think of this before hand. Dumba**es.

I agree that we never should have gone to Iraq. Bush will never lose face and bring our men home. I think our men did die in vain. The whole thing is about oil.

There never was one and there isn't one. It is an ongoing adventure that the next president will have to pull us out of.
