I would say race does not matter when it comes to dating or fitting in but culture does...where the confusion comes in is that most races have their cultures but not all...If that makes any sense... for example, Asians have their culture and are only allowed to get married to each other but theres a few that were born & bred here (UK) and think outside the box and adopt the western culture and so would fit in with people that share their values...

Black people as with white people, dont have that much of a culture difference which is why they tend to get on more and get married more and are in constant competition all the time...

Some black people though from Africa, have their unique cultre and tend to stick to themsleves cos they understand each other more as with Chinese,Koreans and all... with the exception of a few.

My family has been multi-racial for several generations. I think that there are other things that have become apparent as far as dating or fitting in are concerned. Economics, education and other factors tend to be part of the equation as well. Interestingly, in my extended family, interracial dating was not an issue...what was an issue had to do more with intellect, upbringing, the presence of good manners, a good education and the way a person presents themselves. I think you have the right idea of choosing to hang out with a lot of other ethnicities.

People will lie about this a lot. There's a section in the book Freakonomics where they talk about how many people on dating websites will SAY they will date people of other races but they don't actually do so. 50% of white women say they would date a man of another race, but sent 97% of their emails to white men. 80% of white men said race didn't matter and sent 90% of their emails to white women. But maybe, just maybe, young people are better, and that someday we'll stop looking at people's race.

yeah, hang with the white kids. you will be popular with the blondes looking for something different. ;-)

parents might not like it but they are usually ignorant anyway. asians (first gen in this country) are the most racist and they know it. all my asian/indian friends will agree with this. all you asians that don't know me will sit there and categorically deny this but take a step back and look at it and you will see.

Black/white is much less of an issue than it used to be. Unfortunately like another poster mentioned it still happens a lot and a lot of it has to do with parental issues.

Personally I think poster "KT" should get the best answer vote on this one.

People have prejudices.

Some are only attracted to people of their own ethnicity - others are attracted by someone more "exotic"

It really doesn't matter. The judgement is as often an aesthetic one as anything else.

I appreciate you saying that sometimes it's hard to "fit in" - but mix with the people you like, and who like you.

As much as most people today want to stay blind to it, race does matter, even to them. Example: I once lived in Pennsylvania. I used to try to date different girls there, but all the girls around where white. I didn't care what race as long as she's cute and we click. Problem is, THEY cared about race because each one said they liked me, found me attractive, liked my personality, but once we were suppose to go out in public, they all said they're parents might mind because I'm black. They didn't feel comfortable. These are all the same kinds of girls who would say they're against racism. Riiiiiight.

I thought I was living in the 1950's when this happend. I thought to myself, "but eopple said race didn't matter anymore. What a fool I was, and this happened only 5 years ago.

It even matters within a race. I once dated a black girl who's Black parents didn't like me because I'm light skinned. I was amazed by the experience. They were from the south. Her parents are the same people who is against racism that white do to blacks. What about what they (blacks) do to each other? Hypocrites.

And every school I've ever gone to, whites usually hung out with whites, Asians usually hung out with Asians and vice versa. I don't think people chose to hang out with the same color of their skin on coincidence.
