my dad's a mechanic of 40 plus years and he's stumped. it's not the starter, nor the fuel pump (replaced the fuel pump and checked the starter all in 30 degree weather). it starts to turn over like it will start but never catches. about a week ago he got gas and tried to start it but it wouldn't. any ideas? it's a manual if that means anything.

Probably a loose nut behind the wheel. Or your muffler bearings are out.

here is alot to check out
-battery voltage is over 12.4 volts
-is there a coil to check?
-alternator problem?
-though it might not be the starter you said it clicks over without a catches there could be a bad spark plug even if there all new one could be a bad one
`Check the engine oil for water
`check the gas tank for water.
EGR valve replacement?
Check for fuel pressure
thats all i can think could be a problem
oh besides do you have a bad coil or bad belt cuz that does it too?
do you have a bad computer chip or not have one?

its spark, fuel or air. I had this problem with my jeep, i used ether and it finally caught and then went. Check fuel pressure and spark plugs.
