I've always been on the night clock. I am most alive, alert, and yes AWAKE in the "wee" hours. Let me know if it is SCIENTIFICALLY proven, not just a shared opinion. :D

It is not really possible for a human to be nocturnal. Being nocturnal would mean that you have traits to completely thrive in an enviorment where there is total darkness. Remember, naturally you would need vitamin D, which is provided by the sun and dairy products. If you did not naturally produce this substance or something like this you'd have a small chance of survival in a totally dark enviornment. Nocturnalness is not something that is brought out by your sociological enviorment, but a genetic survival trait.

I read an article a while ago (sorry - don't remember where!) that said even when people have been on the graveyard shift for a long time, long enough to adapt to it, they still don't function as well. I think that article was suggesting that humans are inherently not nocturnal - uh... diurnal? - that it IS something programmed into us, and we can't just switch our schedules around.

We do have body clock. So if we will be doing something for long time. It comes to the memory of body and makes us to do the same thing at same time. You must be heard about halucination. If you will be staying in USA and then come to India then there will be change in the time of sleep. You will fall asleep in the day time and waking in the night. So it is possible if you change the shedule of daily life.

OPINION:

I think that someone could be nocturnal because doesn't it mean that creature sleeps in the day. They function better at night too right.?

Anyway, for what it is worth I think a person can be nocturnal.

circadian rhythm is a popular notion - not sure about its scientific viability, but you can easily observe it in cases like jet lag. While the human cycle is traditionally associated with the sun, it's just a matter of turning the cues around to achieve a completely different cycle.
