I think it is. I thought about doing it, but got side tracked with another interest. It will get you a job right away, and not to mention girls love chefs. Go for it, it isn't a broad subject like English.

I am a culinary arts grad (Northampton Community College, class of 1999) I am telling you right now that you are better off apprentecing in a nice restaurant(not one of these chains like Red Lobster or TGI Friday's etc...They don't let you deviate from their menu at all.) If your goal is to become a great chef, culinary school is a great place to learn genaric techniques and methods for cooking, but what about the business end of the deal? You're better off majoring in Business management and working in a restaurant while in school. That way, you learn the basics on both ends. In the end, you are most likely to succeed if you open your own restaurant. You may have to start off small, like a deli or a luncheonette/diner, but word of mouth and good food are the 2 best friends you can have in the foodservice industry. Good luck to you.

I think it's a better idea than studying culinary arts to become a Zoo Keeper.

Usually, when you want to obtain employment in a certain profession, it's a good idea to study that profession first.

So yes, studying how to become a chef is a good idea if you want to become a chef.
