The whole winner-takes-all system in the American Elections generally encourages two mainstream parties that cover a whole lot of issues. A good example is the recent close elections, Bush barely won both of them, but it was the two percent that gave him 100% of the control. So many people will not vote for a third party because it probably will never be elected, most often covers one issue, and then the needs of the voter are not addressed if their party is not elected. So really the American system discourages third parties from running.

I completely agree with you. All the other advanced democracies have more than 2 major political parties. The existence of only two leads itself to an "either/or" dynamic where you have your party, or "team" you root for.
Just because I despise the Republican party doesn't mean I'm a Democratic sycophant. There are a lot of things wrong with them. The more voices heard in a democracy the better.

there is all parties here because of the rights to be, is an American mistake but it was done in good intentions to be within good people to do good things with, the laws were never intended to bring evil to rain in place of good, also if we make voter vote through the right to keep driving it would take the driver who looks more American behind the wheel than he does as a voter, be it known that the behavioral science window could just as easily study America through it drivers than it can through its voters, quantum information and even here is calibrated to zenith, make the third party or the people drivers license wont be renewed if they don't vote and stop bureaucracies everywhere

Ralph Nader / Green Party may have a good shot if the Dems do not impeach George. People in the US are lazy, they do not want to read up. Only hope left for a third party to rise is to have a savant ask her sister poet to write a beautiful poem about Ralph Nader and his vision for America. :)

reason no human being else can win. contained in the full historic previous of u.s. we've really ever had 2 activities straight away, and it extremely works extra effective that way. The activities replace over the years & slide round on subject matters or areas, each so often even new activities arise & replace between both we've. this is consistently a similar tho. this is extra effective to regulate issues from contained in the device then cry about it & in no way replace something. maximum republicans for instance are extra libretarian philosophically, yet you should compromise & have a huge tent in case you want to capture many of the yankee vote. the perfect replace i might want to favor to ascertain... run as inspite of party you want, yet no popularity of party in congress even as they elect leaders or chairmanships.

There are tons of other parties. There's the Green party, American Independents, Libertarians, as well as others. It's just that a third party getting into party is tough.

We do have them. You should check your voter guide in the next election. And I believe there is an American Communist party. I seriously doubt they will come to power, ever.

The most likely reason that there is not strong third party, is because people don't vote for them.

They wind it down to two parties because the government knows they win no matter which party is in power.

Americans don't want to complicate things...we are right or wrong type of people. US vs. Them. We don't waste time with the details.
