Hello,
I was thinking about some of the things involved in belief just today. Coming from a purely intellectual standpoint, that is indoctrinated with a naturalistic philosophy it may seem harder for you, but I think that is not true.It is rather impossibble to reconcile what you are tryting to reconcile, and that is not science and religion, but two different philosophies of life and meaning.Truth in the bible and Christian life is not defined the way modern man defines it and limits it. Modern man limits truth severely.
I believe you sincerely 100 percent and I feel your pain in a way, the way you describe syour sincere struggle and desire to be intellectualy honest with yourself, but I think you are confused on some things thast are not easy to understand. It is not your fault either, well not entirely but rather it is the result of falshoods being taught as science and truth. Modern science is not truth. We do not call a TV or the way it was made to work truth.Truth has to do with our human subjective part , almost like a state of soul, character or attitude and this is what the bible is mainly about. It is not about building better TVs or microchips. Jesus said "I am the Way the Truth and the Life".OUr major problem today is that we cannot handle ourt subjectivity and it has been a "problem for a while in philosophy which ha sled us to "modern science". You see it was the quest for truth and elimimination of subjectivity that led us to defining truth as objectivity and this found in the specific objectivity of scientific method. Butr who decided that this was truth? Was it not the subject? Was it not us? The ones we said cannot determine truth? We cannot escape our subjectivity, it is our freedom , our temptation, our burden. Instead our character, our tastes, our attitude, our loves, our passions, our fidelity must and will determine it for us. The great bible truth is that God will judge us in our subjectivity!
Yes le tme repeat that, God wiull judge us in our subjectivity! We cannot escape blame or responsibility for truth through subjectivity and therefore throw it all away and say "O' Science
make up my mind for me and decide what is truth for me'. This what modern man has said and has in this process denied his human responsibility for choice.Crafy thing that he is.
Now when I say God will judge you in subjectivity, what do I mean and what is the import of that? Well it is very illuminating. As I said the human quest for truth has been simultaneously a human hiding from truth, a denial of it resulting in skepticism and then to science, a truth removed from man, the subjective. Isn't this a psychological parallel ?
The truth is gently knocking , don't look for it out there but inside your subjectivity, do not trust in man or mans invention, they are real objectively , but not true subjectively, the Christian message or word is true!
That is why you have a problem. Most people who talk about science do notknow about its metaphysical foundations in epistemology.
When I say subjectivity I mean your heart, where the bible proclaims its message.. I would also say your are very close to the kingdom of God, friend just stop thinking so much for a while and let it rest, but still be true to your heart that wants to be a Christian.Wait patiently upon the Lord. All the intellectual baloney cannot and will not save you are draw you close to God, but in fact separates. We do not approach God like that, that is not biblical, true faith, blessed faith is simple like a child.
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise.
1 Cor3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”;
20 and again, “The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.”
Blessed is the man that waits and keeps knocking. I would also suggest that you pick up a book about a man of faith , a man you can admire and will encourage you.

I hope you will stop regretting that you are an intelligent, critical thinker. You are rare, and will hopefully put your special abilities to good use. Christianity is not particularly conducive to intelligent critical thinkers.
Ask yourself why you want to be christian? Is it family and friends, the comfortable belief system, the church activities, the moral doctrine, the history? These can be nice aspects of any religion, but if you don't believe the basis of the religion itself, then you will go nuts faking it.
And then determine if you can get these desirable things without all the goofy nonsense involved in christianity. You will have to give up some things to get others - so it probably won't be an easy choice.
I would suggest that you consider a different religion, or none at all. Unitarian Universalists have many of the positive aspects of church, without most of the fairy tales and dogma. They even have atheist members. And Humanism is a highly moral belief system, usually suitable for agnostics and atheists. But there is almost no social structure among Humanists.
Best wishes.

First of all buddy, being a Christian will not make your life easier. And lying to yourself won't make you a very good Christian!
It is good to have questions, and there are places to go to get answers. I, for one, take emails and might be able to help you out with anything specific.
In some ways high intelligence can be a curse, and in some ways it can only help.
If you are honestly seeking answers, hit up my email. Good luck.

I understand what bother you in Christianity. You don't mess up with people self-interpretations from the Bible. The Bible stands for guide and reference, not for judgement. But when ppl judge with the Bible, it's all messed up. I like Christianity for two points.
1. Human can not try to be God. (not like Buddhism). The level is clearly divided for two.
2. Human can not get to Heaven ( or salvation ) by his own merits / practise of good -doings. Clearly that "all your righteousness are filthy rags before Him". It is very true in our real life. We can never have a clean heart which called born-sinned. So nobody can be selfish for self-good-doing things around.
It is enough for me. I know the truth. That's all.

Seek the TRUE God, Jehovah. The religions of the world today mislead the throngs through their words and even their actions.
Jesus gave us the model prayer in Matthew 6:9-15 It says;
9Â “YOU must pray, then, this way:
“‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. 10Â Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth. 11Â Give us today our bread for this day; 12Â and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13Â And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the wicked one.’
14Â “For if YOU forgive men their trespasses, YOUR heavenly Father will also forgive YOU; 15Â whereas if YOU do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will YOUR Father forgive YOUR trespasses.
Notice the first verse says "Let your NAME be sanctified."
His NAME! Not his title. God is a title. The true God's name is Jehovah. That is easily proven. Even the Catholic religion refers to him in the tetragrammaton form"YHWH" or in translation, "YAHWEH". which when translated into english is "JEHOVAH". It means "I cause to become".
You can't find Christianity because true Christianity does not exist in the religions of today. Only one religious sect preaches the truth from the Bible and sanctifies God's name as Jesus instructed us to do.
I'm sure you know who I mean.
Look what Isaiah says about Jehovah God's witnesses; Chapter 43:10-13
10Â “YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “even my servant whom I have chosen, in order that YOU may know and have faith in me, and that YOU may understand that I am the same One. Before me there was no God formed, and after me there continued to be none. 11Â I—I am Jehovah, and besides me there is no savior.”
12Â “I myself have told forth and have saved and have caused [it] to be heard, when there was among YOU no strange [god]. So YOU are my witnesses,” is the utterance of Jehovah, “and I am God. 13Â Also, all the time I am the same One; and there is no one effecting deliverance out of my own hand. I shall get active, and who can turn it back?
He has picked the people he wants to take the word to the people. We are presently preaching in 235 lands and in over 400 languages. Our material is free, we work for free because we love to serve Jehovah, and there is never a collection taken at our Kingdom Halls.
So give your local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses a call. You've tried everything else so what have you to lose?
God Bless and thanks for reading.

Who says you have to be a Christian? There are many, many other religions in the world, and there are many people who don't believe in organized religion, or even in God. I choose to believe in God, though it is a choice, not a certainty. I think honesty with oneself is very important. You are criticizing yourself, but I applaud your integrity.
It is your life and your path and your choice what you believe. Do not let anyone bully you to agree with them. Over time, and with questioning and reflection, you may find something that is truly meaningful to you. Don't force it.
