Hello,

We've had a mouse infestation for a little while (which means it's only bigger now!! GaargH!!) I only do humane cos I can't kill the cute little critters for just wanting a place to stay... (and with my small children dropping crumbs and hiding food down the side of the couch PLUS the dog food, I'm sure I live in mouse-y paradise!! My house is probably known as the Tahiti of Mouse-dom!) Anyway - I want a humane trap that will catch more than one mouse at once so that I'm actually making headway with the critters!! Otherwise all I'm doing is battling against their breeding program! =)

Thanks all for your help...!

Here is a link to my favorite website for advice on contolling and/or eradicating mice and other rodents in your home:

You might also want to do a search for "mouse control" (include the quotation marks in the Yahoo search box) for a lot more information.

Good luck with your mouse problem.

The point of mice infesting a house only if it's dirty is just a myth. Mice will go anywhere, it depends more on the mice's ability to get inside your house via cracks in foundation, etc.. All glue traps that I have seen are not meant to kill the mice, just hold it there until you can do the job. It is not overly humane if that's what you are looking for, I have woke up in the morning and seen the glue trap in the middle of the floor with part of the mouse's leg stuck to the glue. The mice will chew their own foot off to get away. (occasionaly) If you do want to release the mouse from the glue trap without klilling it, the glue traps I use say to dissolve the glue around the mouse with mineral spirits.

This homemade humane trap will catch more than one at a time:

I've had great success with this trap in my house:

Although it only catches one at a time, I've bought four traps and placed them strategically throughout my house.

THANK YOU for wanting to take care of your mouse problem in a humane way. People must not realize or care that mice can experience pain, fear, and distress, too, and that it's not their fault they just want a warm place to live and food to eat.

Here's some information for people who are new to live-trapping:

If you live trap mice, be sure to check the traps several times a day and release the mice promptly, approximately a mile away from your home. It is much more cruel to allow a mouse in a live trap to slowly starve to death than to kill it quickly with a snap trap. Also, if you use the live traps outside, put some bedding (torn-up paper towels or cotton balls) inside the trap so the mice won't freeze to death during the night. When you release the mice, do it in an area with some sheltering bushes or plants. If you are a kind person, you might also leave a little bird seed or oatmeal for them.

The absolute cruelest traps are glue traps. Mice have been known to gnaw off their own limbs and tear off their skin in an effort to escape, as they starve or dehydrate to death or suffocate in the glue. Poison isn't any better, as the mice die slowly and painfully from internal bleeding. It can take up to a week for them to die.

It doesn't take much extra effort to be kind. You will feel better and so will the mice!

Well, you know, I felt the same way, because I really love all animals, but you know when they start chewing holes in your underpants, you may change your mind. I had a terrible, and I mean terrible infestation, and I used D-con. It needs to be put where children absolutely don't go,like somewhere in the garadge. But I'm sure if you decide to do use it , you will know how to use it safely. The little bodies smell for a while but then it gos away. Really, I don't think there's another way. They just keep breeding, and you can't find a way to catch and release fast enough. Good luck! :) Arum

#1 you have to put your food in mouse proof containers, pet food too.
#2 Get one of those tall kitchen trash cans with the flip-flop lid.
#3 smear a little(a table spoon) peanut butter on the inside of the trash can lid.
#4 lean a broom up against the trash can.
The mice smell the peanut, climb the broom , & ker-plop ! you got them.

You have to kill them. Use lots of sticky traps, they will cath more than one. There is no point in having mercy on mice. They spread disease. KILL KILL KILL them.
