Beauty. One reason mathematicians always give is all the beauty they find in mathematics. To understand this, you first need to know that a lot of math work out nicely not because people created them, but because they are naturally true. For instance, if someone doesn't know any trigonometry, there is no reason for him or her to believe that a right triangle with short sides of length 3 and 4 must have a hypothenuse of length 5. However, as you may know, randomly picking two numbers may not necessarily give a hypothenuse with length that is an integer.
Another example is the equation e^(i*pi)+1=0. This simple equation unites 5 different objects (e - related to power series, i - complex analysis, pi - trigonometry, 1 - themuliplicative unit of the real and complex field and 0 - the additive unit of the real and complex field) into the same equation. Once again there were no reasons to believe this equation holds until a few hundred years earlier.

Not everyone likes mathematics. Proof, my step mom does not like mathematics. She actually likes english, a-bunch, actually! She went to college and majored in English and as a matter of fact, hundreds and many thousands of people major in english or language, in college, worldwide every year. Maybe it just seems that way because of the people you hang with...

Mathematics is very interesting subject,It is my favourite subject & i found it interesting bcoz if u solve one problem then u can get full marks(5 out of 5) on that.
It is not boring like literature or Geography, that u write 7pages and get 5 out of 10!!!!!
I loved to answer ur question! Thanks 4 such a nice question!

As you might see from most of the other answers, it's not generally true that people like mathematics. It depends on individuals and some like math just for the reason John C mentioned, inorder to simply get around school.
And most of those who do infact like math take it to be no more than arithmetic and some school geometry.
Math is to be truly appreciated for its intrinsic beauty and phenomenal abstractions.

"Everyone" is a bit of an understatement...no idea why "everyone" likes it.
But I like mathematics because of the numerical manipulations.
To people who despise it: I hope you simply dislike utilizing it. I really doubt computer-users (for example) can deny hating it completely, otherwise they would not have a computer to play with.

Everyone has their strengths. People tend to like things that they are good at and if you are good at math, then you often like it more than the things you are bad at.

Because a professor can't take points off problems "because he feels like it". You'd be surprised how wonderful you can write and still get a D because you pissed the wrong people off.
