I recently bought a copy of it and it keeps saying something about errors because of steam.

It needs to access Valve's Steam network to validate and decrypt the game files.

If you got it second hand check the Valve/Steam websites and there is contact information to get the CD key transferred to your account

well if you have a playstation portable systam and you have installed it on the internet browser you can send it to your personal computer or your laptop or just buy the game on disc

if you brought it 2nd hand for pc, your stuffed,i got a new copy,once its linked to steam its only useable on that pc.i think that stinks!!
