Marriage between a man and a woman has been an integral part of God’s plan from the beginning. God taught Adam that “it is not good that . . . man should be alone” (Genesis 2:18), and Eve became his companion. One fundamental purpose of marriage is for companionship.

God also commanded the man and woman “to multiply and replenish the earth” (Genesis 1:28)—that is, to have children. Another central purpose of marriage is to bring children into the world within a family.

Marriage and family are central focal points in God’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. Our Heavenly Father hopes that we will do all we can during our time on Earth to prepare ourselves and our children to live in an eternal family.

There is no such thing as "traditional" marriage, or the "traditional" family anymore. As a Christian it bothers me that there are so many other Christians that are so against gay marriage. The Bible speaks against sex before marriage - why not move to have co-habitation of heterosexual couples made illegal? Or how about sex before marriage for that fact? You may not agree with a person's sexual orientation but that doesn't make them any less of a person and any less worthy of equality. Tricky Mind says "maybe God likes gay people" - God loves anyone gay or straight. The sooner the right wing fundamentalists get that the better.

Marriage is the union between a man and a woman only. Because they want to be joined in matrimony. There are legal.social, and religious purposes. A good marriage is decided by the agreement of both people that it is good. If you disagree with this I suggest you see how it worked for your parents and your grandparents and your great grandparents.

Marriage is the joining of two lives. I got married, because I love him and he makes me happy. The purpose is to have a partner for life. Someone who is always there with you to help you through the bad stuff and help you enjoy the good. A good marriage is based on love respect and good communication.

"Marriage" is an old testament religious ritual invented to ensure future generations would be available to work the farms and bring in the food and store it up for the winter. However, now that we have Safeway stores in every major town, and with the invention of canned food, frozen food, fast food and clonned food, there's really no evolutionary purpose to "marriage". Except as a religious ritual, marriage has out-lived its evolutionary usefulness along with religion in general.

What's Marriage: Marriage (in my opinion) is a everlasting, non-breakable love between two people who want to be with each other forever. It isn't a "step" in a relationship. Marriage is a commitment..a promise between two people that says "your the only one for me, and i promise ill never betray you"...then comes along the vows of that promise.
The purpose: Is to make a love between two people complete.
Great marriage includes trust, communication, honesty, and of course love. I can't stress communication enough.

However, many people people view marriage and it's purpose differently. But..that is MY view on marriage. A promise that will last forever symbolized by rings and vows.

Marriage is an artificial construct that legally binds 2 people financially. Married couples can file taxes together and share some benefits.

Anything more than that is just filler.

Marriage is--deciding to spend the rest of your life with your best friend--it's no matter how angry you get with each other--your're still gonna be there--it's total commitment, it's "I love you forever", marriage is taking the vows seriously, it's even tho one of us is being totally stupid the other one will be standing over in the corner waiting -- cause we know the other one will get stupid. Marriage is at the end of day, when you're totally worn out, coming home and being content to be there with that other person, it;s contentment, it's happiness, it's friends, it's love that makes a good marriage.
