I had my baby in the 35th week. The only reason was because I had pre-emplasia. He weighted only 5lbs and 14ozs. We both were fine and he got to go home when he was only 48 hrs. old. But I would not want to have another one that early for the fact that they are littler and have a chance of being too little and not being able to breath when they are born. I would say that it would be best to let the baby come on its own. Because a baby will come when it is ready to be born. Congrats on the new baby!

The lungs of the baby may not be fully formed until 37 weeks. The only way to tell this is by amniocentisis which is a procedure where a needle is poked through the belly and a sample of the amniotic fluid is taken. The lab can then test to see if the lungs are mature. Unless you will be at a hospital equipped to take care of premature babies, I would not take the risk. I don't know what the culture is like in India, but maybe you could stand up to these people and tell them that having a healthy baby is more important to you than giving birth in a "bad month". At least wait until 37 weeks pregnant, then your baby will be full term. Good luck to you

I don't think I would risk it for this reason...I know India has different a culture and different beliefs to my own, but I think I'd rather risk having my baby in an "unlucky" time than force baby to come early when there is no medical need for it. Yes, babies who are born at 35 weeks tend to do well as their lungs may be fully developed (or nearly) by this time, but there is a reason human gestation is 40 weeks and that, to me, isn't worth messing with unless baby had a better chance at living outside the womb than inside because of a hard proof, serious medical reason.
I have to ask, though...is this your first baby? If so, you have a very high chance of going overdue, anyways, therefore you will probably naturally pass the 'unlucky' time simply by staying pregnant. About 10% of pregnancies last beyond 42 weeks, which is actually when you are considered "overdue", but induction in some areas is offered at 41 weeks. First time mothers-to-be of singletons are more likely to last beyond the 40 week mark than to have baby before naturally.
Good luck with your decision!

If you want to have the baby delivered at 35 weeks for that reason, you may find it hard to find a doctor willing to do that. If you do, the best thing to do is to have an amniocentesis to determine the baby's lung maturity. At 35 weeks a baby's lung are still not mature enough to be able to breath properly and they will usually need help. Sometimes they have a hard time learning how to eat and they get Jaundice. Please consider this carefully and speak with your doctor. If this is your first baby, remember you most likely will not have the baby on or before your due date. A lot of moms go over. As far as is it safe to have the baby at 35 weeks, I would have to say no, there are too many risks to the baby involved. Good Luck!

Hi.
I would say that the longer the baby is in your womb the better. Baby needs a certain time for his/her lungs to form properly, to practise breathing techniques etc. This is all happening around the 35th week, plus obviously getting bigger, and to produce fat under his/her skin, which is obviously necessary to be able to keep warm enough when he/she comes into the world. But plenty of women have babys at 35 weeks, and the babys are fine. I would say as long a baby is delevoping well, is a good size etc, it should be ok. There are things you can do to help speed things up natrally, such as hot spicy food etc, but the best ones that I have found work wonders, and I stongly believe what worked for me was raspbery leaf tea (Start drinking it around 30 if you ant baby born at 35) and the obvious one that seriously works wonders, making love. Other than that, you can not predict when your baby will choose to come into the world. So you may have to opt for a c section, but maybe just do these things incase mother nature intervens. Do tallk to your doctor though. I dont know if they will preform to c section because of your reason for wanting one. Genrerally here they are only preformed if there are problems making normal deliver not an option, unless you are a celeb or have lots of money that is ha. What ever happenes, I wish you all the luck in the world. And what ever date your baby appears I am sure it wont be bad luck, after all its your gorgeous baby that you have waited a long time to meet, and it will forever after be just the date your son/daughter appeared and nothing else will matter. Good luck x

Firstly, the date that has been given is only a rough estimate. You are usually given 2 weeks earlier or 2 weeks later. You know, God created all 365 days. If there were days that were indeed bad luck days, then He would have told us so or not created it. So get real and think whats best for the baby. the longer the baby stays in there, the better his immune system will be. Do not listen to others and act rashly. If the baby's system is unable to sustain then are you going to listen to the same people who will then tell you that the time that you c-sectioned you babywas not auspicious? Come on, you as the mother have the sole responsibilty of safe guarding your little one's interest. please consider the advice of those who have answered your question

Most OB/GYNs will make you wait until 37 weeks. It isn't safe to go earlier because a the baby will not have fully developed his/her lungs. In turn she/he could be plagued with asthma, infections, and a higher instance of colds.
As for April being a bad month, I have to disagree. April is the month of the Diamond (the most precious gem on earth). My neice is an April child. She is a straight A+ student, steller athlete, and has great manners. Cute as a button too! Good luck with the baby!

You CAN deliver 5 weeks ahead of time, but the chances of your child having serious health issues increases dramatically.
You know, due dates are only an estimate. How do you know you won't deliver on May 16? Give your baby a chance to develop, don't force it to be born when it's not physically ready.

the customary being pregnant length for a 'white' first-time mom is 40-one weeks and a million day (women of colour tend to have shorter pgs for some reason). which ability some women will carry longer, and a few will bypass 'early'. In my non-precipitated pregnancies, I gave beginning sooner or later earlier due date (2d toddler) and 6 days after my edd (third toddler). I knew as quickly as I ovulated the two circumstances. i'm which comprise a hyperlink to an dazzling article on due dates... the stressful section is remembering that they are merely an estimate, it is stressful once you're excited to fulfill your toddler!

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Do NOT deliver the baby until your body goes into labor naturally. You can find information on how the baby develops in those last 4 weeks in the womb on many websites and in many books. Don't deny your baby a healthy set of lungs or strong immune system!
