Its very difficult. But if you have not put a password for administrator or rember password for administrator then pressing F8 while booting select safe mode login as administrator and change your user password with a new one which you note down for further reference. All this is possible if you could log as administrator otherwise you have to download xp password remover from the net and finish you job ( but I could not find any freeware and all cost money) Hence the best thing would be connect this hard disk as a secondary drive to some other PC and take a backup of all your data into another partition of your hard disk and re-install wndows xp.

If you are using a computer that was made by a manufacturer such as Dell, HP, Compact etc... You can do the following,
Reboot your PC, Then boot into safe mode. You can do this by tapping F8 until you see the boot menu. There will be an option to boot into SAFE MODE. Choose this method. Once your Pc boots, you will now see an Administrator account. Yes! Click on this account and log in. Now you can change your password for the user account you forgot the password for. Ohh.. It might be a good idea to create a password for this Administrator account as you now see how easy it was to break into your PC. You would not want someone else to gain access that easy right?
Cheers!

ok do not use any third party software as this could expose your computer to all sorts of hackers etc.
however you can simply run set up again.
this time when you create your accounts go to control panel users click on your account name and then click prevent forgotten password.
now create the password reset disc and keep it safe.
then if you forget your password again all you need to do is insert the disc and run it. as easy as that.
as for bypassing the password you can not easily.
you could try using safe mode and booting as the administrator then go in to the account you forgot the password for and then create a new password then create the prevent forgotten password disc.
good luck.

Look for Hirens boot cd on the net. It will be an .iso image that you will need to burn to cd. Once you burn it, boot the system with the CD and it will offer many different utilities. Some of them will let you reset your Windows passwords.
