Okay, like not all NBA players are as built-up and muscular as Shaquille O'Neal. Is that for a specific reason?

The short, fast players are usually the point guards. The bigger the body and the more strength a player has will get them a position as a center. If you have the strength but your body is not that big you gonna be a forward guard. And goes on and on. YES to your question. A persons physique plays a major role in their position.

It plays a role but isn't the only factor

look at guys like Magic Johnson who were 6 foot 9 point guards and Charles Barkely who played power forward at a shade over 6 foot 4

currently Ben Wallace plays center at about 6 foot 7

typically if you are tall (6 foot 10 or above) and not very fast or just too bulky to stay with power forwards you'll be a center in a league with watered down centers

Both forward spots seem to be interchangeable these days with tall players who play like guards or muscular forwards who have kept a high level of speed

some players can play 3 or more positions and a lot of teams are going with 3 or more guards for their small ball line ups

so physical condition plays a part as you don't want to put your 6 foot 160 point point guard on a power forward but this day and age you can make up for a lot of short comings and just play basketball regardless of typical position stereotypes
