Personally I think it is not a good thing, but what do I know, I am young and this is my first child, I want it to be top notch if you know what I mean. My g/f just can't give up the Dr. Pepper. So what's the deal with Dr. Pepper, is it ok? Thanks for the help

It is okay to drink dr. pepper in moderations. When I was pregnant I only had one can of a caffenine drink a day. It is better to drink milk and water and juices then to drink dr. pepper. She will stay better hydrated that way. And the baby is getting more nutrioustment that away. Hope that this helps. Congrats on the up and coming baby!

I hope so. It was my drink of choice over 20 years ago when my kids were born. They didn't have any brain damage or anything wrong with them.

Beer, wine, alcohol of any kind would have been a lot worse. I couldn't stand the taste of it at the time. I hate milk normally. I did crave milk, but I still drank one or two Dr. Peppers a day. I don't see what the problem is.

If she were drinking a 12 pack of caffeine a day, I could see some problem. Give her a break, I see no reason she can't have a few DR. Peppers a day. She'll probably be a lot happier too, if you aren't nagging her.

By the way a personal pet peeve of mine are pregnant smokers, but most I know still have healthy children. Dr. Pepper is A-ok in my book.

Its fine, the reason its not so great is because of the caffeine it contains (not to mention the sugar--but then again, I have had the biggest sweet tooth through my pregnancy). Caffeine in large quantities can cause birth defects, so many pregnant women choose to stop drinking caffeinated beverages completely, but up to two cups of coffee a day has been cited as acceptable (not a high risk for birth defects).

anyway, I wouldn't stress out about her dr pepper drinking, but it would be healthier if she just saved it for a treat every few days or so.

If women can grab that cup of morning Starbucks coffee while pregnant then why not a DP or two? Caffeine in moderation is just fine. If she switches to diet it would be even better because as time goes on.... so does the weight! Good luck, and please do not pressure her to have a pregnancy by the book. Its stressful enough with all the changes going on with her body and the pressure of being a good mom, she really doesnt need lectures from you. If you want to do it top notch why aren't you married? ( i know it's not for everyone, but you know, a kid is already a huge commitment)

Well large amounts of sugar are not good when you're pregnant, and the caffeine could be bad in large amounts. If she limits it to one glass/can a day then she should be alright. Then maybe she can start cutting back a little more beyond that. I know I craved soda like crazy at the beginning, and let myself have a small glass every day. And now (20wks pregnant) I don't have much at all. The less Dr.Pepper she drinks, and the more water, the better she will feel. The caffeine and sugar are just going to make her feel tired and bloated and that's no fun during pregancy!

Soda isn't the best when pregnant.. although in moderation it shouldn't do much damage. Watching her intake of caffeine and sugars is really important. If she is drinking enough water and eating right.. (using the food groups) some Dr. Pepper should be OK. I drink a soft drink at most twice a week... but only if I am doing OK with my sugar intake.

Have her try Diet Dr. Pepper which has artificial sweetener instead of sugar and has less caffeine. Pumping large amounts of any chemical into your body while pregnant isn't a good thing but your girlfriend drinking a soda should be low on the priority list. Make sure she isn't drinking alcohol or smoking or in an environment that lacks clean air.

i drank dr. pepper during my pregnancy because it was one of the few things i could drink and keep down. its just the caffeine. if possible get it free of that, but you can have up to 350mg of caffeine a day during the pregnancy and still be in the ''safe'' zone. so about 4 cans of soda a day. but that is all that you should have, and its in a lot so make it limited. as for weight gain, i only gained 15 lbs during my WHOLE pregnancy, so that shouldn't be an issue. so yes, she can drink it as long as she doesn't drink a lot of it!!! (my dr. even ok'd it with me! )

The caffeine is the one thing you have to worry about when choosing soda, at least that's what my doctors have warned me. They still don't know for sure if caffeine harms the baby or not but they advised me to limit it... which means decaf Starbucks for me. >.< Sugar is also a big factor because if she has gestational diabetes, it will most likely result in a very large baby. Even without the gestational diabetes, consuming a lot of sugar can possibly increase the baby's size. Good luck!

it is a reasonably great waste of your carbs, thinking it has no nutritional fee. have you ever no longer been given a carb constrained weight loss application plan to stick to? EDIT: My plan had me eating 3 food which consisted of 45g of carbs and 3 snacks that consisted of 30g of carbs, with a minimum of two hours in between a meal and a snack. A 12 oz. Dr. Pepper has 39g of carbs...that's merely about all which you will possibly be dispensed for food.
