Big Pappi, Barry Bonds, A-Rod, Troy Glaus, or Derek Jeter. and WHY?

First of all, Glaus does not belong in there, he simply isn't as good as the others. He has great power, but he can be pitched to and is a strikeout machine. But you are a Blue Jays fan, so I guess you felt the need to have one of your own there for some reason. If you wanted to name one of your own, what about Vernon Wells?

Second, the players you named are all very different types. Jeter is a high average/speed guy who can drive in runs and play a great shortstop, but power isn't his game. Big Papi on the other hand is a devastating hitter, but when he slumps he isn't worth a damn because he sits on his butt and doesn't play a position. You can't call a DH "better". A-Rod is the best, and if you took him out of New York, he would probably become his amazing self hitting 50 homers a year and playing a gold glove shortstop again.

As for Bonds, I'm not even going there. I hope he gets hurt and falls short of Aaron's record.

I don't think there is any question that Derek Jeter is the class of your list. A leader who leads by example. He is well on his way to the Hall of Fame. I don't think you can compare Big Pappi with any of the other since he is a DH, not a complete ball player. Troy Glaus has power but he is basically a .250 life time hitter and really isn't in the same class as any of the others. Barry Bonds is a cheater, liar, and belongs in jail. A-Rod has great stats but is not a money player. Most of his stats were compiled with second rate teams who were well out of any pennants races and did not require him to carry a team on his shoulders to a championship.

I’ll go with Derek Jeter any day of the week and twice on Sunday for this simple reason. He’s a winner. Do you know that since he joined the league in 1996 he has never missed the playoffs. That 10 years that Derek Jeter has lead the Yankees to the playoffs and it’s a really amazing feat since only 4 teams make the playoffs out of 14 teams. He has great stats which I’ll give you a link for but the trait that I think best fits in here is he is the first player out of the dugout when you do something incredible either for the team or for yourself, but he’s also the same guy to walk over to the guy who grounded into the inning ended double play and tell him we’ll get them next inning. For this, alone I think he’s the best player in the game

A team stand point I would say Jeter because he is a proven winner & he is a leader. Big Pappi is close also because of his power & clutch hitting. A-Rod would be next, then Barry, and Glaus.

Toss up between Jeter and A-Rod. Jeter rarely slumps, he is a consistant player and won't let you down in pressure situations. He plays great throughout regular season AND playoffs. A-Rod however will still give you a decent batting average and will knock in 120+ RBIs a season. He is one of the most powerful batters around. I think he just has the upper hand on Jeter due to power and playing the harder position on the field. If we were talking about playoffs, it would be a different story.

A-Rod is the best all-around player; he has more power than Jeter, more speed and better defense than the other three, and he's a better contact hitter Glaus. In all other respects, he is as good or close too it as any of those others.

jeter is the complete package, A-rod made too many mistakes this past season, barry bonds and david ortiz are just power and troy glaus shouldnt be in this question with those names

Out of just those I'd say Jeter because not only is he a great five tool player but his leadership skills go unmatched and he's money in the clutch.

A-Rod is the best of this bunch. He's tops as a hitter with triple crown potential. Top-notch fielder who was able to make the transition to 3rd (growing pains last year). Speed... again... among the top of this group. Strong arm, etc... He's the best overall and remains one of the best talents in all of bseball.
