It's not 100% safe. It's usually 97%-98% effective. I would go on the pill if you're going to have sex. Use both forms, the pill and a condom when having sex. That's the safest way to go about it.
don't have unprotected sex!

The real problem with condoms is that most people don't have the discipline to use them right. You need to put it on right away and withdraw immediately after orgasm. To protect against disease, go to the bathroom and wash before taking it off. Yes, it's a pain. It's much better than nothing, though.

If, however, you wait until you're in a committed relationship (and the only one I know of with real commitment is marriage) then you can opt for simple birth control, not worry about disease, engage in mutual debauchery to your heart's content without having sensation dulled for either partner, fall asleep still coupled and wake up together when you shrink out, both going, "Awwww...it's over." There's a reason married sex is best.

Or, like many fools, you can simply take your chances and pay the price.

It's about 97% safe, so you combine it with another method to be more sure. I'd combine it with the patch for women. Frankly, abstinence is 100% safe. Or, you can use condoms and know that if something happens, your back-up method will be the morning-after pill or abortion.

It isn't 100% safe - the ONLY 100% safe way is to abstain from sex. The percentage goes down when the birth control method is improperly used as well.

condoms are not 100% safe, there are chances of them breaking. And if you are still in high school or grade school and worried about it maybe you just shouldnt have sex so you can get your schooling done with no worries of that.

It isn't, but using other forms of protection as well as the condom increases the safety factor.
