Why did Terriost Attack America on September 11? What did we do to make them so mad?

Osama bin Laden's primary goal was getting westerners -- especially the American military -- to leave his home of Saudi Arabia.
A strong secondary goal was furthering the effort to destroy Israel.
Another was continuing hostilities between the worst religious extremists of Christianity and Islam.
Sad to say, Muslims who consider themselves peaceful haven't done much to control their lunatic fringe -- just as Christianity hasn't.
Obviously, that means the U.S. must control the Islamic maniacs itself. It started to do the job fairly well in Afghanistan, but then got all tied up in profiteering and vengeance and made relations far, far worse for a long, long time.

There can be NO justification for the mass murder of civilians. I don't care what the reason if at all there is one. 9/11 was barbaric, inhuman and horrendous. These are crimes against humanity and must be wiped out. Countries who harbor, train or sponsor such animals must bear the consequences.

I have to dispute Kawaii bit about muslims not raping their own. Incests, rapes are consistently the highest among muslim families in the far east.

I think a few of your answers have done a good job of summing it up. Mainly, they don't like the freedoms we have. They want the whole world to be just like them and have this twisted belief that by killing us they glorify themselves. I think we have in some ways become far too advanced for our own good. However, that's not a reason to start killing people. I don't completely know what makes these people tick, but I don't think I would want too.....

Apparently most of you are too young to recall the attacks against America as far back as the mid 70's..They have been pretty regular ever since that time.. They just have gotten a bit braver and came to attack the homeland.. but found out they chewed off a larger hunk than they expected. They expected the US to back down as they did in the event of the Black Hawk going down... There is a huge difference in Bush and Clinton.. Clinton backed down and moved the troops out. Just what they expected Bush to do. Unfortunately for them, he did not back.
