It depends on what's important to you. The USA has a lot more freedoms than any other country, but again depending on your situation that can be good or bad.
The USA is going through a rough time right now because the majority of people are willing to pay a portion of their income for things like Social Security and National Health Care, while the rich want to avoid that TAX as they do others. The problem comes in because the politicians who should be fighting for the rights of the majority are among the rich or are so obligated to the rich for their position in office that they haven't been doing anything.
God Bless!

We are better than most, but we are behind some. Generally you are better off in Western Europe if you have a job. I found out that because of our lower wages and lower benefits, Western Europe outsource to America, particularly England. It;s partly a polution thing too. We are the most efficient nation for the last decade and have been fighting Japan and singapore for that top position as long as I could remember. THat means that an Employer can get more work from us per dollar than any other developed nation. Of all the Nation, our Employer gives us the least in days off and second to Japan too the most worked days. (Japanese don't use up all their vacation.) In Europe you start with a month of vacation. We are lucky if we ever achieve 3 weeks. THe amount you work a week in Western Europe is less than 35 hours. We were always been China to Europe, pumping out low quality merchandise, until China replaced us. Food is cheaper here, but the quality is much worse too. Some Europeans won't even touch our meat, because it has no flavor.

I think that the only thing that Europe trumps us in is the music from England, the chocolate from Belgium, and the food from France.
America has it pretty good, actually. I just wish that Americans would like their own country more. It seems that more and more people want to move away to other countries because America isn't "what they were looking for". To tell the truth, do you know of any other places where you can find ski lodges and crawfish in the same country? Can you name any other place in the world that has so many different races? Try to think of another place that has volcanic islands, polar ice caps, and pine forests within their boundaries. Not to mention, the food is actually better than the majority of Europe. I'm never trading in my red beans and rice and hamburgers for escargo.

While stationed in Germany, I learned that a lot of europeans look down on us. They see us as cocky..."You american's brag about being #1, yet you have homeless people everywhere. Your streets and your environment are horrible, and have a very big number of overweight people and your healthcare doesn't help everyone"
After the initial feeling of anger, I realized my german friends were right. Thier country is clean and beautiful. There are very few homeless people and their healthcare system is awesome. The roads are in pristine condition. Germany, after the war learned from thier mistakes and are more concious about the way they treat people and about the laws they pass.
I hope that america learns too. We've chosen cheap ways of doing things instead of doing the right thing for the environment, we've passed many questionable laws, and our healthcare is a joke.
Most people talk about america as the only place in the world that has freedom but that's not true....Germans have the same freedoms americans have...
I pray it's not too late for us to change....I'm tired of people bad mouthing the us.....but for the most part they're right.

In Europe they don't have to work nearly the hours we do and they actually get paid decently too. Here the only way to get a job is to be illegal. They say that Americans won't do certain jobs, we just won't work for sh*t wages and that's what corporate America wants. The rest of the world should look down on this country for not protecting its citizens and its borders!

If by 'better quality of life' you mean free healthcare, big deal. Do you know how much in taxes they pay over there for that? Also, what does how other countries look at us have to do with reality?! I don't give a hot $hit what others say about my country.

We have it pretty good. I would rather be here than anywhere else. So what if they look down on us. The europeans are still peeved that we've bailed their butts twice and they are back in 1938 again and about to go in the dumper again. When you're on top of the heap they throw rocks at you.

Where I live there are dead Mexicans often found in the desert or in tanker trucks who have risked everything to get to America.
What other, resentful people in played-out little Euro duchies say is less than meaningless.

Americans are self-convincing delusional fools to take pride bullying foreign countries, while grotesquely chowing down on hamburgers and pizza, to a point where one person looks like four. =)

You heard foreigners who are jealous of us. There is no other country on earth that is better than the USA. If you think there is a better country....move there, but I can bet you'll regret that .
