Most states have no-fault divorces these days. Generally, it just says that the couple has irreconcilable differences, and they both want out. That's usually enough.

ex" in new york state only cause now is cruel an inhumane treatment some states have infidelity some others each state has its own reason to dismiss marriage. at one time it could be alienation of affection or being unfaithful or abuse etc but now its clean quick and you have to show cause it cant be because we fell out of love and it don't work anymore .. its a cop out then you don't enter marriage lightly the cause can delegate who gets what and why and alimony or support if any etc. some states are irreconcile differences children or not you need a satet valid code reason for the judge to dismiss.. as marriage is a contract and emotions and time is involved

Irreconcilable differences, it means that no matter how hard you try you just can't get along as a married couple.

There is also Adultery, however in most states now that is no longer a grounds for divorce by itself.

Cruelty which encompasses, physical or mental abuse as well as adultery...sometimes all three.

Physical abuse, pretty self explanitory.

Mental/emotional abuse, if one spouse trys to maintain control of the other, by not allowing the other to see friends and family, not llowing the other to hold a job, not allowing the other to have access to the family finances. If the "offending" spouse is verbally abusive, constantly calling names, making hurtful jokes, making hurtful comments.

The allowable grounds for divorce vary by state, but every state has a ‘no-fault’ ground such as irreconcilable differences. The no-fault grounds doesn’t require any proof (although it may require separation for a specific period of time).
