Yes, and twice as much. Just because it's the weekend, it doesn't mean you shouldn't learn something.

Well, there are several branches this question could go into. I think that teachers should decrease the homework load on weekends. Sure, doing more review and practice work would help your students learn more & prepare for an upcoming test. However, a study has proved that a teacher who takes time in class to go over the information results in better student tests scores. Also, another factor- even though homework is good review, an excessive workload shows to have a negative effect on students. Teachers, for instance, sometimes assign more problems than are really needed to review a certain concept (especially in math!). Thus, it is an uncessary use of time that could be spent in engagement in a more meaningful activity! Anyhow, I don't think homework should completely be eliminated on weekends, but there definitely should be some review work to be done.

This is a very good question. Teachers do not give homework as a punishment but for other reasons.
1. Teachers are pressured to finish a curriculum and receive incredible test scores from students.
2. Many parents "tell" teachers to give their child more homework so they will get into a good college. Even if their children are in elementary school.
3. Due to teaching shortages and cutbacks, some teachers need to "stuff" many units into one.
I know some students are overwhelmed, but trust me, so are the teachers.

Many students lead busy lives, often very full on weekends with sports, music, drama, etc. So I would not assign homework all weekends, but I would assign about the same amount as on a school day.

Yea, if we we were all "A" students, few are, H.W. is the LAZY way that teachers get out of teaching, kids need a break, as a matter of fact, I took an Anthrpology class in college, the teacher never gave any H.W, and 1 test, it was just casual discussion at every class, you did have to read, just a little bit, I NEVER LEARNED SO MUCH IN ONE CLASS, AND I STILL REMEMBER MOST OF IT !

I think yes - Enough to keep them in student mode for a little while on the weekend. I would not give them twice as much, but a smaller assignment for something to talk about or discuss on Monday morning.

Yes I do, a student has more time over the weekend than a single week night. Therefor if home work is expected during the week, some should also be expected on week ends.

I don't give homework on the weekends. I don't like working on the weekends...why should I expect that of my students?

No! School is like work to the children. They put in their 40 hour week at school. Give the children a break.
