the US Government can't allow Watada to set an example for the rest the people in the US military.

Imagine if 1/2 of the US soldiers in Iraq decided to quit because they all felt that the Iraq war was illegal too....

Imagine what China and Russia would think of the US

I live in the USA and I want the USA to be #1

I did called the US army after the USA attack Iraq but was too old to enlist. I would had stay and finish the job even if I found out that the whole fu-cken Iraq war was fake

Neoconservatives did a fine job on all Americans = Fat Cattle's

I think he is very brave to stand up for what he thinks is right!! So many people think the war is bogus, but noone is willing to stand up for what they believe.

I say we all stand behind him on his decision

He has the right to say no because at end of the day, what is he fighting for, freedom, freedom to say no, to say yes, to have a voice, but you are right to say "the US Government can't allow Watada to set an example for the rest the people in the US military. Imagine if 1/2 of the US soldiers in Iraq decided to quit because they all felt that the Iraq war was illegal too...." and then what if. It is kind of hard to answer, it like a double edge sword.

Him being a military man is difficult, they don't play politics, they do what they get told to do, but that doesn't mean they don't think. It is on his mind if he did something that he thought was illegal.

But you have to do want needs to be done, weather you like it or not. As former Secretary of State Colin Powell said (I think it was him) in relation to Iraq "you break it, you buy it".

Weather the war in Iraq is legal or not, the damage has been done and now it needs fixing.

PS. Why does the military not send him to Afghanistan instead. Ehren Watada (to what i have read) is a proud American and is willing to fight al-Qaeda , he just doesn't want to go to Iraq for ethical reasons.

Unfortunately, he will probably lose, just like Mohammed Ali lost his battle to be allowed a deferment based on being a conscientious objector. The military industrial complex would never allow a "loophole" in the sign-up papers that would give a soldier the right to refuse a particular war.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I think that it would be marvelous if soldiers who did not believe in what they were doing could "opt out". (And if that be 1/2 of all of them in Iraq, so be it!)

I want USA to be #1, but not in killing, not at war!

Who cares what China or Russia thinks of us?? They already hate us...our Western ways are abhorrent to the Chinese.

Why would you want to fight so badly? What did Iraq ever do to you? Why not go look for Bin Ladin??

He will be found guilty, but is, in fact, innocent.

Under intl law, a soldier has an obligation to refuse an illegal order. You may remember Eichmann, who was just followig orders.

The invasion of Iraq was illegal, as is the continuing war. This is not up for discussion. It's agreed everywhere in the world except the minds of Republicans. An order to fight in an illegal war is illegal.

To find Watada innocent, the courts-martial would have to agree tha war is illegal. Aint gonna happen.

Nitzbitz bull, our soldiers were manipulated into this war and all the evidence is there to show this. He was just conciencous enough to say it. He is doing this not because he is afraid to die as he allready stated that he would go to afganistan. He is doing this because its an illegal war. PERIODDDDDDDDDD

Fishball you would make a great robot. Just issue the orders and u will follow them. This soldier has a mind of his own and has just voiced what most americans truely feel inside about this war

Your logic makes you seem only half right. Or to some half-assed. When the right wing is at our throats, stepping on their toes isn't gonna deter their effort. Either your with this guy and his justified on a daily-basis beliefs, or your thinking he should be cannon fodder to perpetuate the illegal occupation and the other dirty deeds of the Simian Boy King.

There is no credible middle-ground stance--pick a side!

When people speak to you about a preventive war, you tell them to go and fight it. After my experience, I have come to hate war." (2)

"I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its stupidity. War settles nothing." (3)

"Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion." (4)

"If all that Americans want is security, they can go to prison. They’ll have enough to eat, a bed and a roof over their heads. But if an American wants to preserve his dignity and his equality as a human being, he must not bow his neck to any dictatorial government." (5)

Dwight D. Eisenhower

34th President of the United States

(1953-1961)

Instilled by the Cadet Honor System with a fundamental, longstanding respect for truth, we graduates of the United States Military Academy believe that honor is a basic attribute of character. That we are no longer cadets is irrelevant. We stand appalled by the deceitful behavior of the government of the United States and, in particular, its widely known malefactors. Lying, cheating, stealing, delivering evasive statements and quibbling not only has demeaned these deceivers and the United States of America, but has placed vast numbers of innocent people in deadly peril. We will not serve the lies.

The war in Iraq was launched illegally. It has since killed tens of thousands of innocents, causing incalculable damage to Iraq and the Iraqi people, as well as the reputation of the United States of America. We will not serve the lies.

When we West Point graduates took our commissioning oath of office one past June morning, we swore to protect our nation against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The deceitful connivances of the current administration have resulted in a war catastrophic to our nation?s interests: politically, economically, militarily, and morally. We now stand to protect our nation from these deceivers. We will not serve their lies.

We seek justice for all victims of this illegal war, both servicemen and servicewomen, and the citizens of Iraq.

To our purpose we invoke the words of Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence whereby we too ?mutually pledge to each other our lives, our Fortunes, & our sacred Honor.?
