I have about 60 in my new house all 50 watts. The family kitchen area has 17 alone. Thats 17x50 = 850 watts. I think they are costing me a heap in electricity. Some have dimmers.
Has anyone heard of any energy effecient globes I can just plug in ? Where can I get them ?
How much are they ?
Thankyou

hiya, you are right it would be costing you a fortune. Watts = watts where in normal houses they may have 1 x 60w globe in a room you are using allot more 17 x 50w globes cause halogens don't spread light like incandescents do. Just because their 12v doesn't mean they use less power. 50w at 12v = 50w at any other voltage. You can some energy efficient replacement from Jay-car if in America. I will provide a link showing you the price as you will see they are not cheap but use like 1.5w to 2w each globe. By the way these new LED globes should pretty much last for ever. These are the same lights that are used in electronic gear like the standby light on your TV or DVD. They are used because they hardly ever blow. Also in closing I would thank the lady that suggest compact fluro lamps but they don't work on 12v so they cant be used. Hope this has helped

You can buy cool, energy efficient compact fluorescent bulbs! They cost between $5-9 and last a minimum of 7 years.I have 3 that I put in in 1991 still going. They use 2/3 less power than a 100 bulb and are sooo much cooler. Check them out at Lowe's or online.

Without changing the ENTIRE fixture for each light I'd say you are out of luck. You can't use a dimmer with the energy saving fluorescent lights either.

Barring that I'd suggest getting lower wattage light bulbs wherever possible.
