probably because the nba keeps making rules to limit defenders and benefit the offensive player because they want scoring to go up

Why the high scores? Because many teams are now playing the run and gun offense and really getting out on the fastbreak. This is sort of a European influence and also the Phoenix Suns have really made it popular. If you look at many nba teams, they are now playing the fast paced type of game the Suns are playing. For some it is working out well. As you know, Phoenix is a run and gun team, which means they love to shoot and run constantly. Thus giving them much more shots and higher scores. Another team is Golden State Warriors. Don Nelson has been known for having a fast paced offense and the Warriors are averaging over a 100 pts per game. Another team is the Toronto Raptors, Brian Colangelo is now building another team similiar to Phoenix, which is shown by drafting a European player who is a shooting big man. The Dallas Mavericks are another team who loves to shoot and run, and do it well. So again, many nba teams are starting to pick up the influence of Europe's and Phoneix's type of play. Where there's a hell lot of shooting and running. Personally, I don't like a lot of teams doing this. But Phoenix and Dallas I enjoy. Hope this helped!

because nba is about entertainment. when zone defense was prohibited, it was to encourage a more interesting thus entertaining basket ball. high scores is one way to entertain the fans.
fans love to see high score. therefore, the league has made their rules that will made this possible.
this year, playing defense has been tougher that the previous year. the refs have been so easy on calling fouls.
i remember one of the member of the team usa said that playing against international teams was a lot physical.
the rules has made the NBA scores up

You could say its cause of the new ball but I personally think its cause fouls are given easily so defense has decreased thus leading to more scoring. Also many teams are going with the score more than your opponent to win Ideology( like Phoenix).

Well, there could be no reason at all, and it could be just a fluctuation.
But if I were to pick one reason, it would be the way the refs called more technical fouls this season. Instead of concentrating on the refs, the players just concentrated on playing.

it's partly the influence of teams like phoenix and dallas and washington. if you score a lot you draw fans and win games, and also players are more likely to come to your team, because they like to run and score. this year, however, the refs are also calling a lot more fouls on drives to the basket. this makes any wing player who can drive much more likely to draw lots of fouls, and therefore shoot more free throws. there are a lot of guys who play on the wing, like lebron, wade, kobe, tmac, arenas, dirk, melo, redd, and iverson who are now virtually unguardable because you are basically forbidden from touching them as they drive to the hoop

scoring is up as a result of rule changes.
Perimeter players are no longer allowed to touch on defense.
Defensive three seconds, and the cleaning up of post play also contributed significantly.
