a couple years ago i had comcast high speed internet, and this was my first time using anything other than the dreaded dial up...not long after i found this great new connection i started having problems with it, i would lose connection at random and wouldhave to disconnect everything and wait 10 minutes and plug it back in to work properly...same problem happens over and over right? so i thought it was a problem with the service and everybody who had them for service had this problem, but lo and behold!...i moved and now i have sbc yahoo dsl..basicly the same setup as comcast hsi, and the same problem happens sometimes twice in 1 month!....it is so annoying especially if i am in the middle of playing a game or something and get disconnected, then i have unconnect everything and plug it back in just to get it to work again!...i know it is my computer that cuases this problem becuase there is another computer that is hooked up to the same connection and has no problems...help!

It could be a number of things. Comcast is not the most reputable for their services, so I'm counting that against it being their problem not yours.
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) connections are still telephone connections similar to dialup and are prone to dropping out just like the dialup connections are. Its just the nature of the telephone beast. Once or twice a month is actually pretty good, I know people who are dumped that many times every time they use their DSL.
The only "Always On" connections I've seen are dedicated connections such as T1, T3, Fiber optic etc. Even my 5MB high speed cable connection will drop a couple times a year, and I'll have to unplug the power to the modem for a few seconds then plug it back in. Its no big deal, it happens, nothing is perfect.

I know a lot of Peer-to-Peer programs make internet connections lock up at random by tripping too many ports at once. LimeWire and BitTorrent are notorious for that.

The only consistency I see with your problem is your networking card in that computer, it might be going bad. If you are 100% sure there is something wrong with your computer that would be the thing I would check first.

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

first try connecting ethernet cable to the pc and spot if that corrects the undertaking. then, try rebooting and press F8 to get to the boot menu. pick 'final properly-known stable configuration' and hit enter. if that doesnt paintings do a equipment restoration to a pair of days in the past. if that doesnt paintings uninstall IE and reinstall it, reboot and do a disk defragment.

depends on what kind of internet your using. if its wireless, get a "belkin usb adapter," it really helps. if not, customer service?
