I'm assuming that you can include the endorsement deals? If so then it will be Tiger Woods.
Golf Digest predicts he will earn at least 1 billion dollars by the year 2010.
He will be the first sports figure in history to break the 1 billion dollar mark in earnings.
Nobody can touch him in earnings in any sport!
He made over $87 Million in 2006.
He's worth over $630 million right now and just opened up his course design company. Dubai just paid him a couple of million as a consulting fee to just show up to a meeting.

Michael Jordan! I have Michael Jordan's rookie card. When he first started playing basketball, fresh out of college he was worth 122 million dollars. Now think about it, over the years the wealth increased 7 times that amount. Then he bought a part in Nike. Then his wealth increased even more. Just his signature alone is worth 8 million dollars each. I'll put it like this, a few weeks after he retired for the last time, i had my card appraised again. And the figure that I was given was overwhelming! If anything ever happens to Jordan and I hope that it doesn't, the card will be worth 16 times as much.

What about David Beckham?
We don't think about him much in North America but he signed a a four-year contract with Real Madrid, worth a potential €35 million. That is some serious cash...This is to say nothing of ensorsement deals and his fragrance line...
