My question is Based on an actual study on plants that grew and flourished, that listened to Classical, spiritual and jazz music. Should the walls in prison be painted pink to relieve anger and stress? Remember, these people will be coming back into the main stream public, don't you think it's worth a try?

I don't think so...Prisoners in Arizona were required to wear pink underwear (they may still be required to do so, I'm not sure) and the overall consensus was that they felt humiliated by this. I don't think that painting the walls pink or forcing inmates to do something which they may find either humiliating or degrading would make for better citizenship upon release

(i do, however, think that it's important to remember that, as you mentioned, almost everyone does eventually get out of prison so programs which increase their chances of success, and therefore decrease the likelihood they will victimize more innocent people, are important and should be developed)

. If classical or jazz was being played (and heard) while the crime was being committed, then I believe the crimes would be less violent overall. But, I don't believe that forcing music selections has a lasting effect on the actions of someone.

What the plant study did not show was if the plants continued to do better when the music was turned off. If we want calmer prisons - paint pink, play soft music, and aromatherapy with the scent of tulips. If you want safer streets, don't let criminals out early, make harsher punishments with worse prison conditions, and educate the public from early on in school all the way to new parents. And, create more good job opportunities which results in less stress, less anxiety, less pressure, and less tension

No, I don't think the music would really affect them at all. It is worth a shot, seeing as it does sometimes work, but people are not plants.

There is evidence, however, of certain colors affecting peoples' behaviors (such as green being a calming color and orange being a color that makes people want to eat more). I don't think pink would be a good idea, seeing as many people don't appreciate the color pink and it might be a little too bright. Perhaps another color would be better-maybe on the cooler side of the pallette (blue, green, purple, etc.), instead of the warmer side (red, yellow, orange, etc.), seeing as the cooler colors are often more comforting and calming.

My brother tried to duplicate that plant study for a science fair project in Junior High.....his results were that the plants (beans) that were exposed to rock music did the best. However, I think a lot of types of music can be soothing and prisoners should have their choice of many types (except violence-promoting junk). I keep telling one of my clients who is depressed all the time that she should be listening to music but she just won't listen to me.

Rock & Roll. i've got on no account been into the full hip hop/rap factor, united states is undesirable, heavy steel is merely too screamy, jazz and classical (sorry if this offends all and sundry available) is extra for previous human beings. If I had to place them so as, it would be Rock, Hip Hop, Heavy steel, Jazz, united states, then Classical.

I think I understand the message of your question...
Our senses can affect our mood, and our mood effects our mind.

I agree totally with that message. I don't necessarily agree with imposing on the criminals space though. A good alternative would be to have a room where pleasurable music is offered to them. That room could also have a pleasantly colored wall color (not pink).

When someone takes time to play classical music on plants they also tend to take care of the plants more so than those who wouldn't care about playing classical music for their plants. The classical music does not affect the growth of the plants.

One tiny statement. Some composers who created CLASSICAL MUSIC were violent. Look at Beethoven and that goon Schumann.

i don't think so , althoug if u think 'bout it .. prsoner loked up in a prison sociyt (Jail) were every one have murdered, rap, stell.. ect.. somthing.. so it's make the crime more naturale for them self.. all what they can see is murders in the prisoner.. i think we should think of this point very carfully .. if u took a good fruit ( for instanc) and put it in abox of bad fruit what will happen.. it's gets wors.......... i respect ur theory 'bout music and color. but i think we should give this a think first... don't u think..
Thanx

Yes, I think you should suggest that to the prisions. Maybe when they come out, they will be transformed from the warm soft pink colors, and come out like Glenda the good little witch.
