Hello,

Last night I was out to eat, and left my lights on for about an hour and a half. I came out and the car would not start. Some of the interior lights worked. I jump started it, and it took a few seconds to start up. Now, my question is, could this be a problem with my starter? Also, how much damage did I do to my car by leaving the headlights on? (P.S. I have left them on one other time. Yes, I am an idiot :)

Thanks for any input.

If it is OK now, no problem. It isn't real good for the battery, but a few times won't hurt too much. It's a good idea to replace the battery at least every four years. They don't cost that much, and it's better to catch one on sale at Autozone or the like for $40, than to buy one at an interstate gas station for $100.

This wouldn't damage the starter, just the battery may be affected. How much it affect the battery will also depend you are using a dry or liquid battery. And you are not an idiot, as many people did that too.

probably no harm
it does cause some extra wear and tear in the starter having a weak battery but 1 or 2 starts on a weak battery probably won't hurt just don't keep the key turned if it is not turning over.
your not an idiot I would leave my lights on but my car has a buzzer to save me if I do.

Buy a jump pack and keep it in the trunk. This is like a battery, but it is dry not wet acid, and has jumper cables attached to it. Cost about $30 at your local Walmart or K-mart. I have one and have never used it except for helping someone else.

You didn't hurt it a bit, you just brought it down below the ability to spin over the starter. Low voltage to the starter won't hurt it a bit.
