I dont drink coffee regularly and when do i feel ok on small a small amount when i usually did. but more than a cup would mess me up. When i got drunk the other night and had just one cup of coffee i felt shaky and irritated as if i had about 3 cups. Is caffiene not supposed to be mixed with alcohol??

no it's not really anything to do with the alcohol, it's that you are not used to the caffeine in the coffee.

I guess mixing upper with downer. Drugs affect people in different ways. With that combination I probably would have felt the same as you although I guess all of us that drink or used to drink have done the waffle house bit after a night out but that involves food most of the time which tends to stabilize me or makes me feel a little better than alcohol and coffee on a empty stomach.

When drinking intoxicating beverages it is best to drink lots of water. This keeps the poison moving out of your system and allows for a more pleasing morning after. Coffee dehydrates you.

Of course it messed you up! Caffeine speeds up your metabolism, making the effect of the alchohol come at you at that much faster of a sweep. As a result, you may sober up faster, but I am not sure what the consequences of that are.
