She'll have a car, so that's another question. How's the parking around there? Any vandalism or theft problems?

I used to live right by Jackson Park, just four blocks due north of the Museum of Science and Industry. Hyde Park is a great neighborhood. It's relatively inexpensive, safe--the U of Chicago police constantly roam the area, in addition to the city police force.

As for vandalism, it is Chicago, so use common sense. But Hyde Park ranks among the safest of the city's 80-some official neighborhoods.

The area has great, cheap restaurants and a funky, intellectual air thanks to the student population.

Despite what other folks are trying to tell you, it's pretty safe around there. There are a lot of three-flat type apartment buildings. It's close to the Jackson park golf course and the park itself which surrounds the whole area. Lake shore drive is also close by and the lake is not that far away. It depends on exactly where she lives. I'd say the best area around there to live would be the northeast area on the east side of Stony Island Ave. The population of the area is largely African American but it's not too far away from the Hyde Park area which has a more diverse population and is also home to the University of Chicago.

The best spot would be Hyde Park. She should try to get a place with parking for a little more security and because parking can be difficult. Another place to check out is Pullman. This is a little known enclave farther south. It will be very safe and inexpensive, but is not quite as accessible to downtown and will not have the restaurants and entertainment that Hyde Park has.

i might want to look all alongside the blue line-- it truly is going to be a instantly shot out to O'Hare on the blue line (this is round an hour from downtown) and also basic get entry to to downtown for you spouse. You suggested suburbs, yet because you also suggested you've been searching in Lincoln Park, so i idea you've been open to the city too? i understand not something about the suburbs, so this answer received't furnish you with any help there. in case you want a extra upscale community slightly like Lincoln Park, try Wicker Park... it change into sort of counter way of existence-y yet has moved right into a extra yuppie inhabitants contained in the merely good few years, if that appeals to you. it truly is the Damen end on the blue line. any extra Northwest and the nieghborhoods are going to get a lot less great (not undesirable, yet not upscale). it truly is the position I stay. in most cases, they're not risky, yet they're not extremely *widespread* both, or a minimum of not the kind of well-loved i think you need from the question. a good number of scholars searching for low-cost housing, a good number of mexican immigrants, a good number of operating type households etc. wish this helped you, I made a good number of assumptions about the kind of area you needed, sorry if i change into way off target!
