Unfortunately our brains do not have an off/on switch. A thought is a bubble arising from the depths to reach the surface which is your conscious area. You have provoked those many thoughts much the same as opening too many windows on a computer. To reduce the amount of windows open in the consciousness you must stop stimulating them at the depths of your being. Let the thoughts that are present work their way out and don't provoke more unwanted thinking activities until you are ready for them. It is good to have much to think about because your brain is a superior bundle of activity and perhaps you will be the one to solve some unknown equation but at your own speed and in order otherwise too much activity gets lost in the rumble.

Well, I strongly advice against self-medicating. Doesn't mater if it's a home remedy, illegal drugs or pharmaceuticals, they only patch the symptoms and don't fix the source of the problem.
I would suggest seeing a psychiatrist for an evaluation and a therapist-psychologist for you to understand what is going on. Then you can fix it!
Sorry if it's sounds like I think you are crazy but I don't. It's always better to get a professional help instead of wasting time. If the professionals tell you that you don't need their help, they will point you in the right direction. Exercise, your diet and sleep could be things to also look into. The professionals I mentioned will have advice for you... the mind is their SPECIALTY!
Good luck

I have this problem sometimes, too. One thing that can help is exercise. I find that when I spend too much time sitting around watching movies, on the computer, reading, etc. my brain overworks and it can become like an uncontrollable anxiety where you can't stop thinking compulsively. But when I go out and take an hour walk or just do something physically exhausting, it helps.
Cut down on your media consumption, spend some more time being social and exercising (if nothing else than walking).

My mom has the same problem. I tell her she thinks way too much about everything and that's why she gets frustrated and stressed. I don't really know what to tell you try meditating or yeah try acupuncture or just get away for a while.

smoke some weed get some good drugs from the psychiatrist. because it never goes off. especially if you drink. i've been trying to turn my brain off for the past month and the one time i suceeeded was when i took a painkiller. it gets worse when you try to think about relationships. your best bet is to avoid them completely until you can't anymore or go to a psychiatrist from the begining because men will drive you crazy

I'm sorry, this is not a popular answer, but drugs really work well. Do they even make Qualudes anymore? Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream. It is not dieing. Wise words from prophets of the 60s.

You should talk to your doctor. There is a drug out there called risperidal. The spelling is probably wrong. It works like a switch for your brain. light on-brain on,take pill, light off-brain off. Or you could smoke a "joint" before bed. That works very well.

i have consistently felt a similar way even as going to sleep. I consistently have a tendency to have thoughts about issues getting in my head. What I do is i attempt to photo some style of photo with my eyes closed, or i imagine of a non secular ascertain, all in an attempt to nod off. considering i do not favor to sleep in lifeless silence, I consistently have the radio on with some white noise, which i have self assurance makes it gentle for me to bypass to sleep.

One of my favorite ways to do that is to play video games. Especially ones with lots of action. I find that I get focused on the game enough that the other thoughts racing around quiet down. Another way is to read a favorite book. Sometimes I have to lie down and quietly read it out loud to focus my mind on it.
