We are constantly learning if we don't stifle our brains by sticking to here and now. That leaves no forsight. We need to explore in the future, that is not to ensure you that in a different scenario you won't get fooled into repeating mistakes. Here and now is a part of the future and it is only a split second in time you spend on here and now, unless your mind is stuck on slow and you are thinking upon the past. Concentration should be forward and sure footed in your approach. elementary speaking you know where your right and left foot are placed so why dwell on that and the past? just keep on stepping. Remember hindsight is not always the best sight unless you are focused on here and now. To err once and twice, is certainly practicing on perfection. Like the first time you rode a bike you fell and then again but sooner or later you rode like the wind. Don't worry that is half the battle.

Repetitive mistakes is a sign of living in the past. If we are constantly gaging or lives on past experiences it leaves no room for new and better experiences. There are no mistakes in life. There are only choices. And you can always choose differently regardless of your past history. Being in the now only makes sense because....that's where you are..Here...and Now...there is nothing else. So to be anywhere else not only doesn't make sense...its pretty much impossible to be Here AND There.
It is something you have to choose over and over again until you no longer see a choice.

Learning from past mistakes is part of here and now... merely marveling or ruing on the past is what makes one deviate from here and now.
Good question and the above answer is a just practical view... logically it is true that pure here and now has to keep on reinventing.

Learning from the past is a matter of reflection during the present, not time travel. Holding awareness in the moment clears vision in all directions.

Here and now is just a state of mind. You will make mistakes, just don't repeat them.

Ok, let's see...all time is NOW.
The past is in your head...or in your long term memory.
The future has yet to be created by you yet.
The way to prevent from creating the same mistakes in the
Here and Now is to search in your memory bank of past experience, take from it parts of it that will serve you and use them as tools to further assist you to advance here and now.
The future is a chance to re-create something anew.
Dude,
if you are not NOW HERE
you are NOWHERE.
simply because the past and the furture are in your mind.
