remember the simple mathamatic equation DMAS which is "division" "multiplication" "subtraction". When you have a long equation you have to do things in this order. So now since you already have the answer you have to reverse the order and get rid of everything except the Y. Whatever you do on the formula side of the equals sign you do on the answer side also.

a. 3y-2+2=19 + 2
b. 3y=21
c. 3y/3 = 21/3 (division and multiplication)
d. y = 7

Add 2 from both sides:
3y=21
y=7

Check:
3(7)-2=19
19=19

What you're trying to do is get the y by itself on one side, and a number on the other side. The way to do that is do something to both sides that will get the y alone. Add 2 to both so you have 3y on one side and 21 on the other. So then you divide both sides by 3 so that y is alone, and 21/3 is 7.

3y-2=19 Bring 2 to right hand side (Negative become positive)
3y=19+2
3y=21 Bring 3 over to right hand side (Multiplication become Division)
y=21/3
y=7 (Answer)

Substitutes y=7 into equation to confirm answer
3y-2=19
(3x7) - 2 = 19
21-2 = 19
19 = 19

Confirm Answer is y=7

You have to get "y" by itself, so add 2 to both sides.

3y-2+2=19+2......3y=21

Now divide each side by 3.

(3y)/3 = 21/3

y=7

3y-2=19 original problem
....-2...-2 subtract 2 from each side
3y=17 the result of the subraction
y=17/3 divide both sides by 3

thats the answer! 17/3 divide it with a calculator

[-3y+4x=-19]-1.5*[-2y-3x=-24]
17x/2=17
x=2
-3y+8=-19
-3y=-27
y=9
