what is that thing that directors use to cut to another scene?? and they write on it scene 2 take one (snap) I have no idea what it is called can someone help me please I am having a brain fart lOL

the Film school grad sitting next to me reminded me it's called a slate and that it's used to sync together sound and visual.

It makes a "mark" - both a sound and something to look at - so the editors can make sure the audio/visual is in sync.

Maybe you're thinking of that affected riding crop. Yeah, I know - it's called a clapboard, forget riding-crop.
