I use a Belkin Wireless G router. Your SBC DSL modem routes through this router. You can then connect your computer directly to the router, or else connect to the router wirelessly. If you do this, I highly recommend making sure you set up your router with a 128 bit WEP encryption, to prevent everyone in your neighborhood from leeching your connection, or compromising the security of your own computer.
Unfortunately, on the road your best bet is to find a hotspot where you can connect, as SBC doesnt provide access outside your home.

If I comprehend your query, you have (in easy terms) dial-up get entry to to the internet, yet you have a prompt router, an Ethernet cable, and a USB prompt adapter. If i've got have been given it surprising, you may set up a prompt community, even nonetheless it won't do you any stable. you in easy terms have one laptop, and you may not connect with the internet with it. The router you have helps an Ethernet connection to the internet. (That connection could be presented the two via a cable modem or a DSL modem, in case you had the two of those kinds of internet connection.) the terrific you're able to do is purchase yet another router (prompt or not, as you like) which helps dial-up. i think that Buffalo makes one, in spite of the fact that in all probability different businesses do, too. Then, whenever you utilize the laptop to get entry to the internet (via typing a URL into the browser, case in point), the router will dial up into your internet provider provider and connect with the internet. After it truly is idle for a whilst, it is going to disconnect. seek for a router consisting of a 56k modem.

Yes, unless your Modem/Router SBC supplied you with has it built in and your PC has built in Wi-Fi. Check these things out 1st. If you need to buy them, Linksys is good, it is owned by Cisco, he company that makes 90% of the routers the internet works on. Just make sure you enable WEP when you install it.

No it comes free. The modem may be built in with a wireless router but it is free. Depends on the company.

As far as I know there are no restrictions which are vendor dependent for hardware, you can buy a linksys card and connect to a belkin or netgear router.
