I am also American i am working over in Singapore at the moment depending your reason for the visit to singapore depends the need of a visa, for visits /tourism vacation etc.
No visa is needed at all have a valid u.s. passport a clear record and by all means no drug traffic attempts this is a death penalty.
Singapore is a very civil and clean place to visit, has a lot of intersting areas and is alot of interesting areas and history of Singapore, enjoy your trip and stay in singapore . bring lots of cash$$$$$ can be expensive.. any other questions regarding singapore trip to or about singapore post same i will attempt tp help.
