I have a Toshiba Satellite, and it is SMALL! It's only 12 inches by 9 inches, and it's so light that I can carry it in my backpack WITH my books (including the Riverside Shakespeare!), no problem. It's great, and it has PLENTY of memory for everything I need. It has 3 USB ports, a memory card slot for digital camera cards, and a DVD/CD player/burner. I love it!

Suggest you call HP or Dell and talk to a rep. Tell him/her what you need, what you intend to do, and he can help you determine what PC to buy. You might be able to buy a refurbished.

Dell and HP seem to offer good support which is as important as the price.
