"The"
It's a riddle - as there is no longer any "third" (non-obsolete) english word that ends in "gry". The third word in the question "What is the third word" is "the".

It is a riddle that has been around for a long time. Unfortunately it has been corrupted so that it no longer makes sense. The wording of the riddle is precise:
"Angry" and "hungry" are two words that end in "gry". There are three words in the English language. What is the third word? (If you look carefully, I have already told you what it is)
The section in brackets is sometimes omitted. The answer is "language" - the third word in "the English language".
It is a typical schoolchild riddle like
"Antidisestablishmentarianism" is a very long word. How do you spell it?
Answer: I-T

Here we go again. I am so sick of this question being posted. Read my lips. THERE ARE ONLY TWO WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE THAT END IN 'GRY' - ANGRY and HUNGRY. And I'm starting to feel both!

It's supposed to be worded differently, so that the answer is language (i.e., there are three words in "the English language").
