The Federal Government does it all the time to its employees. Often without pay. They also will work you 100 hours a week and pay for 40, or if they pay at all, the OT rate may be less than the regular rate. State governments also tend to violate their own labor (and other) laws.

Your factory can work you 7 days a week if they pay you. They would be very foolish to do so for long as accident rates go up, productivity falls off, and the impact could destroy the business.

Assuming you get OT, it might be cheaper to work people overtime (only labor is paid, not benefits). But it is not a smart way to manage labor.

I live in california, and one company I worked for, well yes they did this. They also worked every holiday you couldn't take it off but they did give you a free day off when you wanted. They just couldn't have everyone off at once. It all just depends on the business if it is high volume then they need people to work.

There is no labor law against working Sundays. If that's what you got to do to keep your job then that's what you got to do. Your right they could ask for volunteers but they don't always do what they should.
