i need to watch a dvd on my comp and everytime i put it in nothing comes up and i have tried both slots. do i have to dowload a certain software for this to work? it is really important that i find this out. please help. thanks a lot.

I have a sony Vaio and it came with five disks of manufacturer software. Sometimes you have to go into those and manually install a DVD software. My Vaio came with Intervideo. I hope that helps

Yes . I knwo this probem. You need a DVD decoder which allows your system to play DVDs. Just because you have a DVD player doesnt mean it will play...you need a software decoder. These usually cost money..but I knwo a website that you could download it for free and watch great quality videos. It is Cliprex.com

seems like ur dvd isnt good enough. try using some other dvd and u will get to know. laptops come pre installed with softwares.
