Wow! Its statements and questions like this one that keep woman down. Woman can make money just as well and just as fair as men can. I'm offended by your question.

Woman can do anything and probably even greater than man can and her children will be proud that she did.

yes but its not easy. the 'system' helps a lot. but states are tired of paying for other peoples children, so that is why they go after the dead beat.

1) if on public assistance, they go after him for money. he will owe the state for all they pay out to the single mom.
2) call your state board of public utilites and ask what programs they have to help low income families/single parents. heat, electric and sometimes phone.
3) food banks. call area churches and see where they are. go weekly; this free's up money for the electric bill.
4) the red cross sometimes helps with cheap cars. the salvation army helps with everything.
5) daycare and schooling; the state pays for this (in some states)
6) contact the attorney general in writing. he/she may be able to put some heat on the case.
7) if the CS caseworker isnt on the ball, write the regional federal CS office and ask what they can do. they too put some heat on.
8) go to court and ask his lisence be taken away
9) make sure the arrears are reported to the credit reporting agencies (his credit report).
10) when the amount is high enough, a tax refund intercept (state and federal) are automatically put on him.
11) jail; they are put in for short periods (then he has a record) until someone comes and puts some chunk of cash down toward the arrears.

here are some links. one is a CS calculator; just click on your state and fill it in. this will give you a general idea what the payment should be.

some are to answer any other questions; just click on your state and find the section you need.

the rest are to help.

It just takes a lot of dedication and hard work,,jobs in day care, schools, sometimes gives you a break on child care if you don't have a bored grama somewhere to watch them.I drove a school bus, took mine with me,and back they had to ride the whole bus route before we could park and go home,I got laid off in the summer and got unemployment ,which was fine, the kids were on vacation and so was I ,the check was only 2/3 my pay but I saved on gas and lunches and it balanced out.now day's the government has daycare assistance and college funds to start over, you can make it.there's a lot more support these day's plus you just have to . You just do your best day by day ,and pretty soon you realize you have it figured out,Expect broke down cars, kids sick when you need to go to work.Pissed off bosses.and remember to save what you can for broken things and unexpected problems, you love your kids, you will find a way that works for you.

Mothers whose husbands died serving under arms continued raising thier children. These days there are compensations for things like that, but it wasn't that very long ago that there wasn't.

Why not? My mother raised 3 of us with no dad, no child support...

It was not easy... we were dirt poor... it was embarassing being on welfare... it sucked having her work 3 jobs... but she did it... she kept the family together...

It is possible....
