alright the top three bass players according to me are Michael Balzary from the REd Hot Chili Peppers, John Paul Jones from Zeppelin, and the afore mentioned Les Claypool i think any of those can be argued, and all three have completely different playing styles

I think Claypool is great, but as a fan of reggae I say that Family Man Barrett is just as good, but it's just a matter of opinion either way.

I'd say either Billy Sheehan or Michael Manring. Sheehan plays in Steve Vai's band and Manring is a soloist.
