Can a UK CD work in Canada/United States?

I'm just asking because I'm interested in buying a CD single from a seller in the UK (obviously, I would download it but it's quite hard to find). I've bought a game from the UK before, not knowing about the PAL programming/configuration and it turned out to be junk here. Would UK CDs be the same thing here?

CDs are not recion coded games and dvds are. i moved here from the uk and ive never had a problem with any of my cds even the burnt ones.

CD's are the same worldwide.
