I keep a collection of the old school artists. These young cats are all about getting a dollar. Half of them dont even live what they preach. The old school hip hop was funky fresh something to dance to. It wasnt disrespecting women calling them hoes and B words and wasnt about busting heads. I listen to real hip hop and think twice before letting these new artists influence me in a negative way or fill my mind with unwanted garbage. That my friend is how im keeping it alive. Im listening to the good rap and weening out the garbage.

I agree with much that I read in responce to this question. It is true that the old school hip hop blows anything out of the water today. I think the current form of rap music has to change- and just like modern rock- has to get back to the groove. The beat. Lyrics. Music. Just plain earth dirty blues.

This money bullshit in rap is getting old. The gansta's really don't scare white burb folks anymore cause their own kids are shooting up schools now. I think some rap muscians still have the love and the groove- but the movement is dead. WHY? It isn't an underground force anymore. Its now up there with punk, grunge, metal and rock. A bunch of boring plastic cookie cutter rappers.

But, there are good hip hop BANDs still going strong. God bless The Roots. Playing their own instruments, writing good tunes...

But you need the funk. The groove. Give me a good strong hook that will stick in my head- not just a sample.

And I shouldn't do anything to keep hip hop alive. I play music myself, and that notion is retarded... If the musicians can't keep the music alive, then it will die. But people are suckers, and trends always come back around. See ya in a few years...

Lil' Wayne has gotten huge interior the previous few years. Even Eminem's new songs did no longer get 0.5 as lots radio play as maximum of Lil Wayne's greater moderen songs. Is he retaining hip hop alive in terms of that high quality all of us omit from years in the past? no longer likely, yet he's retaining listeners on their feet, he has an insane volume of potential, and he's keen to artwork with lots distinctive of people. Lil Wayne is going the place the spotlight is and because he's a hip hop artist, then hip hop is going with him.

I am personally not a big fan of rap, but the question is, what are you doing to keep hip hop alive, being a fan of that music you need to buy their music and promote it. I personally am a fan of metal (that's right the so called "dying" metal as one of them said) and I'm doing what I can to help keep it "alive." But despite what anyone says, every genre will stay "alive" despite popularity, sure it will have its ups and downs but it will always be there.

Nothing. Hip Hop needs to move out of the mainstream and go back to underground where it belongs, with conscious artists who address social issues and who play an active role in building up the broader community and educating people.

I am doing my best to exploit it as nothing but junk, pretty much like any other rap garbage. Being a product of the sixties and the motown generation we had a feeling for real music, not some lyrical rhyme with little actual music talent. It may do well with kiddies and gangster wanna bes but the majority of the general public cannot stand it. God bless the likes of James Brown and legends of the past, there is not much present that is for sure.
